来源：为麦角菌科虫草属真菌冬虫夏草菌Cordyceps sinensis( BerK.)Sacc.寄生在蝙蝠蛾科昆虫幼虫上的子座及幼虫的复合体即冬虫夏草或者蛹虫草经提取分离纯化制成的提取物，其中蛹虫草提取的产品为虫草素和蛹虫草提取物。
虫草的有效成分主要是虫草多糖，虫草多糖 是由甘露糖、虫草素、腺苷、半乳糖、阿拉伯糖、木糖精、葡萄糖、岩藻糖组成的多聚糖。
